CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.
GRAND NATIONAL MEETING.

CHRISTCHURCH, this day.
The committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club has passed the programme for the Grand National meeting. The stakes total £7600, compared with £6700 last year, and the increase of £900 has been spread over eighteen races. The Grand National Steeplechase has been left at £1000, but the Winter Cup has been raised to £600, and the Grand National Hurdles to £700. an increase in each case of £100. The Hunt Cup and the Enfield, Beaufort, Lincoln and Aylesbury Steeplechases, also the Trial and Sydenham Hurdles, have each been increased by £50, while the Selwyn Handicap has gone up £75, several other flat races being raised £50 each. The Duke of Gloucester Cup will be substi-1 tuted for the Sumner, Handicap oii the! second day of the Grand National meeting. It will be an open flat handicap, run over a mile and a quarter. The stake will be £185, and a miniature of the cup valued at £15. It will be restricted to gentlemen riders, minimum weight 11.0, and the rider of the winner will receive . a miniature of the cup. Dates Recommended. The applications for next season's dates were considered to-day by the Canterbury District Committee, and most of them were approved, the exceptions being three! South Canterbury dates. Amberley was recommended for AprU 24, while in the case of the South Canterbury Jockey Club, : which applied for the same date, April 10 was recommended. The Waimate Hunt applied for July 24, South Canterbury Hunt for July 31, and the Christchurch Hunt for July 31. The committee recommended July 24 for Waimate, and July 25 for South Canterbury, leaving Christchurch Hunt with July 31. i
