The Queensland Turf Club's Cup meeting was opened yesterday in brilliant weather, the main event being the Stradbroke Handicap, which was won in line style by the New Zealand-bred Capris, who finished brilliantly from the ruck. MELBOURNE, May 3. The three-year-old Whernside, owned by Mr. W. R. Kemball, of New Zealand, was successful in the Otway Welter Handicap at the Ascot meeting yesterday. Idavale was unplaced in the Mallacoota Handicap and Araunah in the Imperial Handicap. Cape Morn and Green Cape were unplaced in the London Trial Hurdles. Result: — OTWAY WELTER HANDICAP of £300.
