OUR CHERISHED HOPE FULFILLED.

SUNBEAMS TAKE FULL COMMAND. ORGANISATION FOR THIS YEAR'S WINTER CHEER CAMPAIGN. 1 he rise of our annual sunshine effort from its small beginning pears ago to the provincial-wide campaign of to-day would be astounding were it not for the fact that it gives expression to the natural good that lies in the hearts of all young people. It was our hope when we launched the sunshine ship four years ago thai eventually the Sunbeams Would take full control of the ship. This year brings the realisation of that hope. To-day, as the sunshine ship glides into deep water, the crew is in entire command—Peter Pan and Wendy are guests aboard the ship.

For three years Wendy's Sunbeams have keen fitting themselves for a task. To-day, their training complete, they assume the responsibilities for which they have bean preparing, and Wendy relinquishes her command to assume her rightful Tole of club mother the friend and adviser of all, co-ordinating the efforts of her Sunbeams. To give effect to this plan, and so that the organisation may be understood by all, we make the following explanation of the organisation:— The Sunbeams army will be divided into small clubs, each under the leadership of a sunbeam. Those who, through various reasons, are unable to definitely link with an active club will be drafted at this office into outpost clubs under an appointed leader. The organisation at Sunbeam headquarters will consist of Wendy, as club mother, with- whom will be associated a group of adult helpers and a band of Rays. The functions of these are to assist Wendy in the internal organisation associated with preparation and delivery of the completed quilts, whilst the Rays—a group of senior Sunbeams—will be permanent leaders responsible for the control of work and play during sunshine days at the "Star" Office. Membership of a club entitles one to come to the "Star"- Office pn the

Saturday appointed for that particular club and take part in the activities planned for that day. In order that effect may be given to this organisation it is necessary for: (1) All sunshine clubs at present in existence to register at this office, giving the names and ages of all members, as well as name, agi and address of the appointed club captain. (2) Any new clubs in the process of formation to complete thsif organisation at once and carry out the instructions above. Wf would suggest a minimum membership of 12. (3) All unattached Sunbeams (i.e. all those not already members of a club in 1 and 2 above) register as a Sunbeam at this office by forwarding name, age and address. This should be done at once so that in our issue of May 16 we can advise the names of those who have the privilege of attending the first sunshine day at the "Star" Office. During the course of the campaign Wendy's Hays will allot points for sunshine spread by the various clubs. The definite scale of marking will be announced later, but the exciting result of the contest we must tell you now. The club y* ; c'~ n —!_ ) high-

est total is to be Wendy's special guest at an all-day picnic some sunny Saturday after the close of the campaign. Well I think that is quite enough news for one 'Week, but before I close 1 want to make it clear that this year's campaign is to be your own effort; everything associated with it will be decided and done by 'beamcrs themselves. We at H.Q. may supply a few ideas, but upon the decision of the clubs, through their captains, depends the enaction of those ideas. Three cheers for the new Sunshine

OUR COMPETITION CORNER So often we hear the phrase "If only I had the money ..." that it becomes quite depressing to think there are many people not able to do anything without magic "money." I wonder what our Budget readers would do if some good fairy gave them each £100? Write and tell me what you think you would do with this surprise gift, making your letter not more than 200 words in length. This competition is divided into two sections: A for those 15 years and over, B for those under 14 years. In each section 4 half-crown prizes are offered. Post your entry to Peter Pan, care "Star" Office, Shortland Street, Auckland, before next Saturday.
