BRIDGE FOR SETTLERS.

MINISTER'S PROMISE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, Friday. A 6ite suitable for constructing a bridge over tlie Raukokore River is being investigated by the Main Highways Board. Advice to this effect has been received by Mr. A. G. Hulquist, M.P., from the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple.

The Minister indicated that as soon as the investigations had been completed, steps would be taken to design a suitable structure. When an estimate of the cost was available the question of a contribution from the Opotiki County Council would receive attention. "It is recognised," says the Minister, "that as long as the present conditions remain settlers who require to cross the river will be subject to no little inconvenience, but the matter is definitely in hand and, while it will necessarily take some time to IlnaV.se every detail, you may rest assured that the construction of the bridge will be undertaken as soon as circumstances permit."
