BUSINESS LIVENS UP. GOVERNMENT STOCKS FIRM. f LOCAL BODIES SELLING. has bean a livelier tone on the Stock Exchange over the past 24 hours, and a good turnover lias been recorded. At this morning's call Government stocks were in keen demand at late rates, but holders kept off the market, the only offering being a parcel of 3%'s, '38-'4l; which was available at £102 5/. As a second best choice the market was keen 011 local' body" debentures, and two more lots changed hands with other inquiries unsatisfied. There was rather more bidding in the banking section. E., S. and A.'s sold a shilling higher, at £6 6/, after which the market rested between £6 4/ and £6 6/0. New Zealands were again on offer at £2 6/, and a buyer moved up to £2 5/3. Recent easing in Kauris was confirmer with a sale 9d down) at £1 3/3. Australian issues were in good request at late rates, but Australian Glass has steadied, and the shares "were on sale at £4 10/, with 110 buyers in sight.
