CHEST HOSPITAL.
BAILEY'S ESTATE SITE.
SUITABILITY QUESTION.
When the question of the new che3t diseases, hospital was being discussed by the Auckland Hospital Board the statement was made that the proposed site on the Bailey Estate at Penrose was unsuitable because it was in an exposed position and was liable to be affected by fogs and unpleasant odours from the Westfield area. As a result Press representatives were invited by the trustees of the estate to visit the site and to. inquire regarding the suggested disadvantages. The results of that investigation, made yesterday afternoon, indicate that the comments did not set out the correct position.
The Westfield industrial area lies practically south-east of the proposed site about_a mile and a half away, arid as the prevailing winds in that area jire westerly there is.little likelihood of any being carried about it. This indication is borne out by neighbours, who state that in years they have never been worried by any such nuisance. It is felt by the residents that the correspondent who suggested that there was a danger from this source was confusing the site on Bailey's Hill with another part of the estate, Camp Hjll,'which is adjacent to the industrial area. The old homestead ,is well protected from prevailing winds .by. a mixed ■plantation of trees, and residents state that it is well 'aSove the normal fog level. 1 - : /.- 1 "-:.•■■/ ,1
