The 193G Rugby season opens to-morrow with five senior matches, and keener interest than usual centres in the first I series of contests because of the number of players making their debut in Auckland. Although all could not be expected to attain major status at the outset, the following are among the recruits from districts outside the boundaries of the Auckland Rugby Football Union: — Grafton —Rutherford (Taranaki), centre. Marist—Cooney (North Auckland), fiveeighth or centre, returning to his old club. Manukau—C. Brown (Taranaki), forward. Ponsonby—R. Potter (Hawke's Bay), forward, returning to his old club. , University—Evans (Palmerston North) and Hayman (Christchurch), backs; College Rifles —Buchan (Thames), wing-three-quarter; Bell (Scotland), Collinge (Oriental, Wellington) and Redwood (Nortliland), forwards. Otahuhu—Carroll and Lynch (Waikato), five-eighths; Davis (North Auckland), winger; Bullot (Tukapa), Dicken and Palmer (Thames Valley), Lilburn (South Auckland), forwards. Training College—Matthews (New Plymouth High School) and Parker (Hawke's Bay), centres; Shaw (Gisborne) and Sutton (Taranaki), insitles; Dobbin (Tarafinki), Barclay (Hutt Valley), Hammond (Thames Valley) and Clarkson (South Auckland), forwards. The principal game to-morrow is the meeting of Grafton and Marist at Eden Park, while in the curtain-raiser 'Vairity I will engage the 1935 champion team, Technical Old Boys. The remaining game at headquarters is the match between College Hides and Training College, who had been in retirement for a couple of winters. North Shore, promoted to major status, will tackle Ponsonby at Devonport. Grammar Schools' Old Boys and Manukau journey to Sturgess Park, Otahuhu, lor their contest.
