CAMBRIDGE TROTS.

THE WINTER MEETING.

FIELDS FOR TO-MORROW.

CANDIDATES' FORM REVIEWED

The winter meeting of the Cambridge T. rotting C'iub will be held at Cambridge to-morrow, and with the good fields engaged in all events an excellent day's sport is promised. The betting will be on the win and place system. The Opening Event. The programme will commence with the Introductory Handicap, and with a field of seventeen on the limit two rows will probably be required. Golden Knight showed fair speed at the last Cambridge meeting, and slight improvement on that effort would give liim a chance here. Stargum lias not been seen out for some time, but has got through plenty of sound work and should take a hand in the decision. Terraplane has failed to live up to two-year-old promise, although she is one of the reliable sort. Worthy Bond did not have the best of the running when he finished third to Royal Jewel and Aerial Bell on the second daj- of the Auckland •February- meeting. He should have derived a good deal of benefit from the outing and lie may be one of the hardest to beat. Hori Bingen has fine speed, and his second placings both days at Hawera will not be forgotten. Agnes Bingen and Great Jewel are very speedy novices, but are unreliable at the start, and the best of the others may be Home Brew. There are several unknown quantities engaged, and there is plenty of room for a surprise, but a trio likley to gain plenty of support are HORI BINGEN WORTHY BOY STARGUM. An Even Field.

Ten are down to contest the Leamington Handicap, and with the field of about even class tlie lace bears an open appearance. Tryment disappointed in her last few races, but she would only have to make a reasonably smart beginning to have a chance, lied Frontier has more speed than the average improver, but he is always apt to do something wrong. Our Summer has not raced for a long time, while Prince Etawah does not appeal, and the pair may be held safe by Muriel Bond. This mare won a race at Wanganui in fine style, but subsequently developed foot (trouble, and her form at Manawatu can be discounted. Silk Cord has won a couple of races lately, but is not the best of stayers, and Star Pronto appeals more. The Australian-bred gelding is very erratic at the barrier, but lie would only have to go away on time to take a lot of beating. General Sarsfield won a couple of saddle races earlier in the season, but has not been out for some time. Parochial and Proletarian are the backmarkers, and the latter is nicely placed. A favoured division may comprise PROLETARIAN MURIEL BOND STAR PRONTO. The Principal Event. Next comes the chief event of the day, the Cambridge Winter Handicap. Four tigure on the limit, and the prospects of Nervie's Last appear bright. He has gained a second and first placing in his only starts since coming from Australia and has gone fast on each occasion. King's Play has shown fine staying ability in his races, but is a trifle erratic at the start. Arapai has a couple of successes to her credit in trotting events during the last month, but Our McKinney has been racing disappointingly. Winaway is nicely placed, but may go better in the open sprint. Winshow .would have to improve, but Kewpie's Bond will have her ghare of support after her fine effort in winning the Rangitoto Handicap, on the second day of the. Auckland meeting in February. Social Pest has been seen to better "advantage over short distances in the past, while Rockella, who has been ljacing really well recently, is not without prospects. In a good betting race the best backed may be NERVIE'S LAST KEWPIE'S BOND KING'S PLAY.

A Big Field. The largest field of the day is down to compete in the Hautapu Handicap, and with an acceptance of 23 the event includes several newcomers to the trotting ranks, and the luck of the draw at the barrier may play a prominent part. Frontier Boy went a couple of fair races last season and may have improved, while Worthy Princess, a very smart beginner, is sure to be one of the best backed. Reception and Bingen Sun have speed, but are not too reliable, while the same applies to Sophie Bingen, who promised to reach the winning list a couple of seasons ago, but has not been out for some time. The American-bred colt Swordsman is down to have his first race, and as he has been trotting well at Takanini is assured of his share of support. Franz Derby and Nelspear are improvers, and the best of the others may be Corona Bell and Arapai. A preference may be shown for

SWORDSMAN WORTHY PRINCESS NELSPEAR—CORONA BELL Bracket.

The Bruntwood Handicap. The novice and improving pacers are again catered for with the Bruntwood Handicap. King Country showed fine promise last season, but had to be laid aside owing to an ailment, and he may need a race. Bachelor King is speedy, and the same applies to Shadow King. Stargum, Hori Bingen and Worthy Boy are engaged earlier in the day and their form may be a reliable guide. Sir Frank should not be long in opening his winning account and he should have great prospects. Ranfurly Lass and Hot Point will have to be considered. ' There is room for a surprise, but good money may be invested on

SIR FRANK— HORI BINGEN Bracket HOT POINT RAN FURL Y LASS.

The Bardowie Handicap. The withdrawal of Electric Bell from the Bardowie Handicap has left a field of nine. Norrie Rock has a couple of fair performances to his credit in the south, but King's Knight appeals more. This gelding won a race at Manawatu in very easy fashion and he should have fine prospects of adding to his winning record. Proletarian and Star Pronto have chances and King's Guide will be one of the favourites, his efforts at the Auckland February meeting being very impressive. Summed up, the chief fancies may be KING'S KNIGHT KING'S GUIDE STAR PRONTO. The Concluding Event. The programme will conclude with the President's Handicap, the chief sprint of the day. Parochial is nicely placed off the limit and will ensure a strong pace being on, while Nervie's Last would only have to be produced to hold good prospects. Kewpie's Bond and Winaway will have to be considered, and so will Rofeella. Three that appeal are WINAWAY NERVIE'S LAST PAROCHIAL. A special train will leave Auckland at 7.7 a.m., and Newmarket at 7.13 a.m., returning after the last race.
