AUCKLAND CONTROL BOARD

MANUKAU CEUB PROMOTION,

CHAMPIONSHIP STARTS SATURDAY

Among important business conducted ■by the Control Board of the Auckland Rugby League last evening, when Mr. G. Grey Campbell presided, was the final consideration of the Mariukau Club's application for senior status, this being taken in committee. It was subsequently announced that the board had pleasure in accepting the eighth senior team, the chairman intimating confidence in the enterprise of the new club, which it was ■understood would be introducing a number of very promising recruits to the code.

During the meeting telephone calls repeatedly caused interruption, revealing a keen interest in Ihe draw for the opening series of championship matches on Saturday, when Mr. J. A. Lee, UnderSecretary to the Prime Minister and president of the Auckland League, will officially declare the season open prior t? m ? in attraction at 3 p.m. Mr. ii. Wahnsley, a prominent supporter, who has recovered from a lengthy illness, will set tile ball in motion.

The opening match on No. 1 ground will be between Richmond Rovers and Ponsonby, followed by Mount Albert and Newton Rangers. The new team wiil make its debut early on No. 2 area, where Marist Old Boys and City Rovers will be opposed at 3 p.m. Members expressed enthusiasm at the satisfactory nature of the initial programme and Mr. Campbell said the clubs had never been keener and more prepared to give of their best on the field.

The Xew Zealand Council, acknowledging the reappointment of Mr. R. Dceble as sitting delegate and Mr. Grey Campboll as direct delegate on the national bpay, complimented the Auckland League on its substantial position.

An application from the secretary and treasurer of the Seddon Memorial Technical College staff and pupils' finance committee inquiring as to the possibility of Carlaw Park being available on certain hours and days for each week during the first and third terms when the college •was in session for the purpose of sports arrangements was favourably considered and referred to a special committee.

Mr. T. Hill was appointed an official time-keeper in association with Mr. A. E. Chapman, members of the Referees' Association.

The Taranaki League's request for an early representative match was held over pending the arranging of representative fixtures.

It was decided to thank the vicepatron, Mr. J. F. W. Dickson, for the donation of two handsome medals for junior award.

The transfer fee for junior clubs losing plavers to senior clubs was increased from £1 to £2.

Reporting progress .on behalf of the Tuakau sub;centre, Mr. George Aslier mentioned that the leading Rugby Union team of the district, Te Kohanga, had turned over .in a body to play Rugby League, and prospects for the district competition were most encouraging.

The chairman congratulated the Tuakau district officials on the advance being made in that part of South Auckland and it was decided to support steps being taken in connection with grounds at Pukekohe, Mercer- and other localities.

A request from the Seddon Memorial Technical College for the use of Carlaw Park between the hpurs of 1 and 3.30 p.m. on several days during each week was referred to the chairman with power to act.

The New Zealand League advised that the transfers of G. and W. Tittleton and R. White from South Auckland had been confirmed. Other transfers were approved as follow:—R. Middleton, Newton to Ponsonby; G. A. Kerr, Newton to Devonport; A. O. Porteous, Newton to City; W. Cuff, Mount Albert to Newton; Midgley (Ponsonby), subject to regrade, Dunn (Ellers]ie) and Shippe (Mount Albert), to Green Lane.

The Ponsonby Club advised that R. Bright and L. Hutt, both representative players, had been granted a transfer to Newton.

The following registrations were approved:—W. Barlow, T. Allen (City), S. J. Davis, N. L. Parris (Ponsonby), R. L. Haslam, R. Aro, J. Anderson (Marist).

Applications for reinstatement made by A. Porteous and L. L. Knock were approved.

The abuse of special official passes to Carlaw Park was discussed at some length, and it was decided that holders of such would not be permitted to enter by the players' gate.

The junior management committee advised that the transfer fee of a junior player to a senior club had been increased from £1 to £2.
