NAVY AND DEFENCE.
"Direct Hit" says there is only one way to get peace on earth: Take profits out o armaments. But that would not stop warNations would still go to war it" they only used battle axes and swords. ''Direct Hi believes that submarines are the masters o surface craft. It was only the other day someone in England said that to-day it is impossible for a submarine to approach within striking distance of a warship without being discovered. The day when one submarine sans three cruisers in the North Sea in half an hour has gone by, and to-day all nations know how to combat submarines, which now have only certain uses. The U-boat menace during the' war and to-day is different altogether. I am still a believer in Mr. Churchill and the old song, "It's the Navy, the fighting av . v ' that keeps our foes at bay." So I will leavf "Direct Hit" to his Jules \ erne. \V. .MALTBY.
