I'aitry, reported that 011 March 31 the overdraft was £603, compared with £1401 last'year, and £4884 in 1033. The overdraft really should have been- £393, subsidies from the Main Highways Board being banked on April 1. Anzac Service.—Mr. G. H. Edwards, the local manager of Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., wrote advising that the King's Theatre would be available for, the Anzac evening civic service iree of charge. The of the council are to be conveyed. V V " : -" ; '•/; Football Season.—The use of the Muni r eipal ground was granted to the Northcote.; and Birkenhead Rugby Union Football Club to play the annual match with Takapuna for the Fletcher Cup on Saturday, April 18. This match was played at Takapuna last year. The Ramblers' League Football Club applied for the use ot the municipal ground in Stafford Road for the ensuing season, and suggested the same conditions as hitherto should apply, viz., alternate Saturdays with the Rugby Club. The ground was allocated on this basis to the two codes. North Shore Drainage.—Approval was given to the appointment of the Northcote representatives on- the North Shore drainage committee, with the stipulation that no expense was to be incurred without the consent of the council. During discussion Mr. A. G. Osborne maintained that the only solution of the problem would be provided by the amalgamation of the four North Shore boroughs.' Water Charges.—The town clerk pointed out that the charge for ordinary water supply in the borough must be one penny in the £ on the unimproved value. "In some cases where the unimproved value is high ratepayers have installed meters and thus avoid paying a higher rate," he stated. "This is strictly incorrect, and these ratepayers must ..now be notified that in future the charge will be one I penny in the £ on the unimproved value, and. the meter must be removed." Notice was authorised to those concerned that the payment must be by rate according t° section 84 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1933. . . 4 ' s Marine Boroughs" Association. —A letter from the BirkenVead Borough Council pointed out that recent developments had rendered it necessary for the North Shore local bodies to take united action in connection with such matters as drainage, hospital facilities and transport, wlnclx vitally affect the northern districts as a whole. It was considered by the Birkenhead council that such matters could be more expeditiously dealt with by an association of the local bodies concerned, and that the calling of conferences of all the members of each council is an unnecessarily cumbersome method of discharging such business. The hope was expressed that reconsideration would be given to the proposal. No action was taken in the matter. Rubbish Tin Dangers.—The North Shore destructor committee advised that it had been resolved to draw the attention -ot the interested local bodies to the danger of placing explosives of any nature_whatever in the rubbish receptacles. It was also mentioned that storekeepers place unsaleable tins of fruit pulp, etc, in their rubbish receptacles without puncturing the tins. The committee placed the matter before the council with the view to giving the fullest publicity possible to those dangers. T v Storm Damage.—The overseer, Mr. J. Mays, reported on the damage to the foieshore generally bv the record high tide and storm on March 27. The backing up of the tide Hooded the low-lying area adjacent to Sulphur Beach, and several homes were flooded. The Sulphur Beach timber breastwork, stone-pitching and bridge were badly batterer!' and scoured out. Restoration work was in progress.
