PONSONBY CARNIVAL.
GOOD DISTRICT RESPONSE,
I The queen carnival being conducted in the Ponsonby district with the swimming club, band and Rugby League club participating is meeting with gratifying public recognition, the swimming club queen at the present moment heading the list. Continuing its campaign, the Ponsonby Rugby League held a community sing-song at the Leys Institute last evening, Mr. G. Grey Campbell leading the happy hour, during which items were given by "Friend John," Miss N. Farquhar and a group of children. The Rev. Mr. Squires, of All Saints, was thanked for the use of stage effects for the occasion. A Paddy's market followed and is being continued this afternoon, supplemented by a card evening. A collection is being taken up at Fowlds Park. Morningside, next Saturday, when the Ponsonby seniors will play Mount Albert.
The carnival will conclude on April 9, preceded on April 8 by a grand concert in the concert chamber of the Town Hall, where Bill Hindman's sports club of IZM station will provide the programme.
