GOING OVERSEAS.

PRESIDENT OF MUSEUM

LEAVE OE ABSENCE GRANTED.

The president of the Auckland Institute and Museum (Air. A. T. Pycroft) was granted leave of absence for the remainder of the year at a meeting of the council yesterday. He will leave on April 3 for England. Mr. Pycroft thanked the members of the council for the assistance that they had always given to him. He hoped to visit other museums during his tour and attend a museum conference at Leeds. He intended to look out for anything that would be of use to the Auckland Museum and would communicate with the director.

Professor H. W. Segar and Mr. A. T. Pycroft were appointed delegates to the Royal Society.

In order to put forward the council's views on the administration of Rangitoto Island, Messrs A. H. Johnstone, K.C., H. E. Vaile, J. C. Rennie and the director (Mr. G. Arche'y) were appointed to wait on the Minister of Lands (the Hon. F. Langstone) when he next visits Auckland.

The director reported that the Fijian collections had been rearranged in- four cases to give an improved display, and that further accommodation had been provided for the Oriental and China sections.

The director reported that the attendances at the museum during the past month totalled 7207. a weekly average of ISI7. and that the trital this year was 27.712.
