ESCAPED DEATH.
CAR WRECKED BY TRAIN. YOUTH ONLY SLIGHTLY HURT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. A youth named E. Commcrer, a soil of Mr. IJ. Comnjcrcr, of Elthain, was injured about the head and Buffered a severe shaking and bruises as the result of the car he was driving being struck by a train on a level crossing at Conway Road yesterday. The car was being driven up a steep incline from the west side of the railway line when a north-bound train crashed into it, carrying it across the cattle stops and wrecking it. The driver enereavuured to avert an accident when he caw the train, but was unable to pull up in time.
The youth's escape from injury is regarded as remarkable and is accounted for by the protection given by the sedan body of the car.
