BRAVE ACTS RECOGNISED,
MARY REESE AND J. DIAMOND,
The Auckland lieucl centrc of the Royal Life-Saving Socicty resolved last night that the attention of the Minister of Education .should be drawn to the importance of considering a knowledge of the society's woik with teachers' qualifications.
The following examiners wore appointed:—Messrs. IV. Broadby, I'aeroa; A. A. Moore, Cambridge; I<\ Chapman, To Puke; W. Wedorell, Whakatane; A. S. Batty, Otaua; J. E. Allen, Warkworth.
A letter is to be sent to a former member of the centre, Mr. 12. C. Stretton, who was recently appointed headmaster of tho Norsewood District High School, Hawke's Bay, expressing appreciation of his services in the interests of life-saving, both on behalf of the centre and outside its territory.
The Eastern Suburbs Club asked for recognition of the deed of Mr. J. Diamond, of St. Helier's, who, on January 27, rescued a child from drowning at Ivohimarama. It was decided to send a letter to Mr. Diamond commending his prompt action. The club was also advised to refer it to the Royal Humane Society for recognition by this body.
The meeting adopted a recommendation by Mr. Len Brighton that a letter of congratulation should be sent to Miss Mary Reese, of Weymouth, the 16-year-old girl who rowed out in a boat and saved the lives of two children after their live adult companions had been drowned, following the capsize of boat on the Manukau Harbour on January 27.
