AIR MAILS.
SERVICE COMMENCES.
TO DUNEDIN IN ONE DAY. IMPETUS TO BUSINESS. Letters posted in Dunedin yesterday were delivered in Auckland this morning. They arrived in Palmerston North by aeroplane at 4.12 p.m. and came on to Auckland by the first express. There were 2000 letters for Auckland and their delivery early in the forenoon signalised tho inception of New Zealand's air mail service. Business people are enthusiastic over the benefits conferred by this rapid service, and say that the drawing closer together of the principal commercial centres of the Dominion marks an important era in tho progress of New Zealand. Mails posted in Auckland in time to connect with the expresses to Palmerston North now reach as far south as Dunedin the following day. The first mails to connect with the new service reached Palmerston North from Auckland yesterday morning, and a good many people availed themselves of the service in order to have stamps cancelled with the date of the opening of the new service.
