WHIPPET RACING.
AUCKLAND CLUB. The autumn meeting of the Auckland Whippet Racing Club was held on Saturday at Seymour Park, Mount Roskill. There was a good attendance, and the visitors were rewarded with excellent races. The chief event of the day was tha Auckland Cup of 150 yds. Each heat was keenly contested, and the times registered were fast for the course. The time of tha winner, Mr. G. Remington's grey brindla Oro Fern, was 9s, which works out at just over 15yds a second. The world's record is 17Jyds a second, registered on a course like a bowling green. Oro Fern came to light again ip the Railway Handicap, equalling the time ot the cup, and was a yard further back. This was won by half a head from Mr. Milne's Vagabond. The programme closed with the Hurdla Sweepstake of 150 yds, and it was the most spectacular event of the day. The jumping of the dogs brought loud applause from the crowd. The second dog, Dark Hazard, at the last hurdle caught up five yards on the winner, Muzzi Fern, by i tremendous leap. The officials were: Messrs. E. Harrison (starter), M. Sugden (judge), R. LawsoS (timekeeper), M. Cusack (handicapped and C. Copland (secretary). The results were:— Auckland Cup, heat) Muzzi Fern 1, Princess Jean 2. Time, 9s, Second heat: Tempest (lljyds) 1, Gold Fern 2.
