MARIST OIiD BOYS' CttTß
AFFAIRS FOR NEW SEASON,
At the annual meeting of the Marist Old Boys' Rugby League Club, held at the Auckland Rugby .League board room last evening, with Mr. J. Sayegh presiding, much optimism was shown for the approaching season. •••*•<•• ' • - - v *" ' The report stated that the senior team was defeated only once in the first round, but owing to injuries and sickness the side met with only one success later. However, the club looked forward with confidence to the 1936 season. The senior reserve team creditably won the Norton Cup and Stallard Cup. A team played well in the third . grade, but owing to losses one thirteen was withdrawn. The Marist schoolboys won the seven-a-side competition for the second year in succession. In this connection a special grade was to be .provided for those boys ineligible to compete in grades at present controlled by the A.R.L. junior management. Coaches were thanked as follows: Messrs. C. Gregory (senior), G. Batchelor (senior reserve), Mullarvey -and Thompson (third grade), Bakalich and Mudford (schoolboys), and McElwain, Delihoyde and Fletcher. Reference was made to the distinction won by J. Laird, who won international honours against the Kangaroos. It was regrettable that as an outcome of injury Laird contracted water on the knee. He had spent over twelve months in hospital. The club extended its sincere sympathy to Mr. Laird, and it was the recommendation of the outgoing committee that the club should hold a benefit to help compensate the player. The club was strong financially, with a credit balance of £168 13/6. , , • , „ Officers were elected follows. t Patron, the Rev. Dr. M. J. Liston; president, Mr. J.
