LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
JUNIOR CONTROL BOARD. NEW REGISTRATION PROPOSAL. There are early signs of Rugby League football activity in Auckland and last evening the junior management committee, with Mr. D. Wilkie presiding, held a meeting with a view to arranging the season's programme as soon as possible. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on March 17 and to call for club delegate nominations to be in by a date to be notified early next month. ' «»The desirability of a new registration system requiring the filling in of a card by every junior player was fully discussed and the proposal was approved. The system will entail the re-registration of nil players for a start. The secretai'y, Mr. Clarke, said the card system would greatly simplify management and office work. Among the matters to be brought under the notice of the senior conference is compulsory insurance, which it was considered could be met by an adjustment of the usual playing registration fee, to which the A.R.L. would contribute.
Several members spoke strongly in favour of the proposal and it was reported that only 78 junior players voluntarily paid extra for cover last season.
It was decided to urge the scheme to Control Board. Another suggestion is that every senior club should be compelled to have at least three junior teams.
