WEEK-END PICNICS.

FAVOURABLE WEATHER. SPECIAL TRAINS RUN. Despite a few scattered showers of rain over the week-end, the weather was generally line and favoured the annual picnics of a number of Auckland organisations. Fleets of buses, launches and steamers, and several special trains were engaged in the work of transporting crowds of picnickers to various grounds in the vicinity of Auckland. Perhaps the largest gathering was at Pukokolie where the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants held its annual picnic. Over a thousand people attended, and two special trains were necessary to take them to the grounds. The annual pcnic of the Hamilton combined Friendly Societies at Motuilii also necessitated the running of two special trains to carry 700 people from different parts of the Waikato. RAILWAY SERVANTS. There was an attendance of over 1000 people at the annual picnic of the Amalgamated Society of Railways Servants held at Pukekohc. Two special trains were engaged to take the excursionists to the picnic grounds, and a full day of sporting and novelty events was much enjoyed. The first picnic of the newly formed Auckland centre of the West Coasters' (South Island) Association was held at Tui Glen. About three hundred people attended and children and adults were entertained by a comprehensive programme of sports events.' There was a large attendance at the St. Andrew's Sunday school picnic, held at Tui Glen, Henderson, on Saturday. Over 250 people attended the annual Picnic of the Auckland Municipal Officers Social Club held at Motuihi Island on Saturday. Children's sports occupied the morning and after lunch the visitors and club events were run off. On the return voyage the prizes won by the visitors were distributed by Councillor G. Free toys, fruit and ice ci'eam were distributed to the children and in the afternoon a large sports programme was held. Tui Glen, Henderson, was the site selected for the picnic of the Ponsonby Boys' Band, held in the week-end. Selections were played during the day by the band. The band queen Miss D. Lynne was present, with her maids of honour, Misses N. Austin and J. Courtney. . ST. DAVID'S SUNDAY SCHOOL. The annual picnic of St. David's main and branch Sunday schools took place at Eastern Beach on Saturday. About 200 children, with parents, teachers afld other friends, made the journey, chiefly in buses, and found plenty of entertainment arranged for them. Most of the children enjoyed bathing, and in the afternoon a series of races was keenly contested on the san(ls. The prizes were presented by the Rev. W. Bower Black.
