MAIZE CROP LOSSES.
ESTIMATE OF 20 PER CENT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORXE, this day. About 20 per cent of the estimated maize crop in the Gisbomc district has been lost as a result of the storm. This is equal to from 8000 to 10,000 sacks of shelled maize.
The damage was patchy. In some parts the crops are a complete loss, while in others the damage is negligible. In the meantime the market for maize remains fairly quiet. High prices have restricted demand which has been turned to cheaper types of grain. Gisbornc sellers are still asking o/0 f.0.b., but buyers are not willing to pay this price.
