BRIDGE OR TUNNEL.
I have read with much interest the corres-
pondence in your paper in connection with the harbour bridge or tunnel. I should like to think that we are immune from enemy air raids, but as we live in such rapidly-changing times would it not be wiser to play safe, as a bridge could be destroyed in a matter of minutes from the air? Auckland is considered to have a negligible risk from earthquakes, and even Japan, one of the worst earthquake areas in the world, has vetoed a bridge in favour of a tunnel on account of the danger of enemy air raids.
