HELP FOR MINISTERS.
PREPARING LEGISLATION.
GOVERNMENT PLAN MATURING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The Government's plans for co-opting members to assist Cabinet Ministers f in their duties are maturing and it e is expected that an announcement >. about personnel will be made shortly. t At present some the Ministers have certain members attached to them in an advisory capacity. j The Prime Minister, Mr. Savage; .. made it clear to-day that there is j. nothing in the nature of conscription about the scheme. "It is a question of getting assistance from those members j. who are willing to give their time and , ability," he remarked. "We have a committee going into details at the j moment. a "Parliament has to get together as early as possible," Mr. Savage said, i "and to do that our legislation has to . be drawn up. We started on January . 8 to go into legislation covering big > issues and naturally the task of fram- [ ing the details could not be done by the > 55 Labour members. It. had to be done by tlio Cabinet and referred to the rest > of tho members in caucus. This work • had to take precedence."' Reverting to the question of legisla- ■ tion, the Prime Minister said there would be a Government caucus in ample • time to allow members to be satisfied ' with tho proposed legislation before it went before the House. As soon as the • legislation was prepared they would be called together for the purpose of running the rule over it.
