IN THE PUBLIC MIND.
LOW GRADE ORE DEPOSITS. NATIONAL INVESTMENT. (To the Editor.) I agree with F. Reed that from a private enterprise point of view quantities of ore and average values in those quantities should be proved before asking the public to invest in mining ventures. However, from a national point of view the position is entirely different. The existing procedure with unemployment : funds is to expend millions yearly without any ■ direct return in monetary wealth. Therefore • I contend that such expenditure is absurd L and a new system should be substituted. Would I it not be more sensible to have a return of £750 for the expenditure of £1000 on lowoxade ores, as against the expenditure of "£IOOO in digging post holes and filling them J in a wain without any return in monetary r wealth' And why does Mr. Reed confine his ; remarks to free-milling ore? Are we never '> to exploit our sulphides? C. SCOTT.
