TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. 1(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The markets were quiet on Exchange, buyers quoting freely for Government issues at late rates, but the only lot on. . offer was a parcel of 1955 honds at £105. The banking section continued to firm, E., ,) S. and A. leading the way. Commercials of Australia held Saturday's price, after which further buyers offered the same figure, with sellers a penny higher. New . South Wales were wanted at £34 5/, with sellers at the new high level of £35. Buyers for Commercials of Sydney crept up to £19 7/8. New Zealand banks were quieter and practically unchanged. Westport Coals were still in strong demand, i quotations ranging between buyers £1 3/3 and sellers £1 4/9. Stocktons (ord.) were •) 5d lower than the sale price last May. Gas quotations were steady. Aucklands - were wanted at £1 6/3, .sellers £1 7/. . Kauri Timber rose 2d, to £1 3/8, after - which buyers and sellers were a penny • either side. Glass advanced a shilling * and closed very firm. Dunlops were weak.
