ROWING.
TRIAL RACING. INTERESTING SERIES OF CONTESTS. A light northerly breeze made the water conditions lively on Saturday when the Waitemata Boating and Auckland Rowing Clubs resumed trial four racing. The Tamaki Drive course was used, and the spectators enjoyed a splendid standard of rowing. Taking into consideration the fact that so many men are still on holidays, and that the regatta crews for Hamilton were having their final work-out, the entries were very satisfactory, Waitemata placing five crews and Auckland three. WAITEMATA CLUB. 1 In the annual trial fours for the trophies donated by Mr. Hugh Wright, vicepresident, the Waitemata Boating Club had five crews afloat, and three hard races were rowed before the winners were found in Dalton's crew. The Tamaki Drive course was rowed, and Mr. E. W. Bishop acted as starter and Mr. C. C. Cairns was judge. The crews of G. Dalton and C. Cairns met to decide possession of the trophies. From a fine start the crews were almost even to the quarter distance. Dalton then forged ah<?ad and crossed the second gap with nearly two lengths to spare. Once in the straight Dalton's crew swung in to their work and crossed the line with a margin of four lengths to spare. The winners were:—G. Dalton (stroke), A. Harper (3). I. Christoff (2), J. W. McCowan (bow).
