SUBURBAN CHAMPIONSHIP. SECOND ROUND ENTERED UPON N. MARTIN'S HURRICANE HITTING. The second round of the City and Suburban Association championship started on Saturday in variable warm weather which culminated in a heavy shower at 0.20 p.m. that caused a stoppage of play on all but one wicket. After a good start, with Peters notching 47 runs, to end by hitting his wicket, Brixton finished >vith a mciliocre 109 runs against Green Lane, who at stumps were 164 for three wickets. Kerr, who had taken six wickets for 56 runs, compiled a classy 90 runs undefeated after being missed in a "lollipop" catch when lie had scored a single. R. Lonergan was 39 not out. On No. 2 wicket Manukau, adopting ail entrenching policy, compiled 271 runs for five wickets. Hazlewood 72 and Dunning 55 were conspicuous in early stonewalling tactics and it was left to N. Martin to impart sparkle to the afternoon's effort. When runs were badly needed he rose to the occasion in commendable style and in spite of good trundling by Finla.vson and Nicholas particularly, he showed dashing form and power with his driving to all parts of the field. In 69 minutes he hit two glorious sixes and 17 fours, one of which was registered when the play was resumed after the shower for five minutes to give him a chance to reach his hundred. Roskill, with F. Wood outstanding for his 52 contribution, did well to hoist ICS runs against Ponsonby, for whom Hebden bowled judiciously. Ponsonby had a brief hit up when the rain came, three runs being on the board. Scores:— ROSKILL V. PONSONBY. MOUNT ROSKILL—First Innings. . .
