Mount Lyell.—Progress report for fortnight ended January 8: North Mount Lyell mine: Extracted 2841 tons; 1300 ft level. No. 1 3 rise to 75ft through low-grade ore. Crown Lyell mine: Extracted 1000 tons. Royal Tharsis mine: Extracted 2000 tons. West Lyell mine: Extracted 9030 tons. Lyell Comstock mine: Extracted 2250 tons. No. 4 level, No. 2 mullock pass drive W.B. to 53ft through filling: No. 5 level, No. 10 stope extension mullock pass rise to 57ft through low-grade ore and completed - No. 7 level, main shaft to 357 ft through mineralised quartzitic schist. Reduction works: Furnace in blast throughout period; 2847 tons refinery anodes made for current year. Concentrator: Mill operated 312 hours and treated 18,000 tons, producing 1350 tons copper concentrates. Copper refinery: Tank house in operation throughout period; 513 tons cathode copper produced for the fortnight. Total for current year, 3024 tons. Mataki.—Under date the 21st Inst, the dredgemaster reports as follows: For the week ended January 10 the dredge worked, 113 hours 55 minutes on a face of 530 ft, pulling ahead 30ft in an average depth of lift, the gold return being 420z lOdwt. Owing to the shallow nature of the ground and a low river it was necessary to lift 3ft of pug bottom over 300 ft of tho face, which accounts for the decrease in yardage and lost time. All machinery is working well. Bundi (West Coast). —For the period ended January 15 the dredge operated 255 hours, treating 55.000 yards for a recovery of lOOoz. A pumping station has been Installed and a new river pipe line will be completed next Thursday, when it is anticipated that the water shortage will be eliminated. During the period the dredge lost a , day and a half through shortage of water. Blaekwater (Reefton). —The report for the quarter ended December 31: Crushed i 11,592 tons, yielding 4828 fine ounces of gold, from all sources, the value of which, taking gold at current monthly value, was £34,034. . Working costs were £15,028. leaving a work- | ing profit of £10,006. Development expend!- • ture was £1462 and capital expenditure £13,465. Review of development work car- ' ried out during the quarter: Development J driving ceased in mid-November to allow of - repairs to the north shaft, which will bo completed in mid-February, when driving ] No. 13 level will be speedily prosecuted.
