THE EMPIRE'S NEW RULER.

ENGLAND'S new Monarch, Edward VIII., until recently the popular and democratic Prince of Wales, is the first bachelor King to ascend the Throne of England for a period of nearly 400 years. Seldom, if ever, has there been anyone so popular among the younger members of the Royal Family as the Prince of Wales. "GOD SAVE KING EDWARD "VIII."

With one accord Britons the whole world, over pill this week acclaim their new Sovereign, His Gracious Majesty King Edward VIII. As the popular Prince of Wales, the new King has for many years past come into close contact with the British people, who are now his subjects; indeed never before has a Monarch ascended the Throne with so thorough and complete a knowledge of his Empire and its peoples. King Edward comes to the Throne a direct descendant of a line of British Kings. There is no heir-apparent, this title being reserved for the reigning King's son or grandson; the heir' presumptive, however, is King Edward's eldest brother, the ' Duke of York.

tan, eventually leaving there to commence Lis preparations for a student'* life at Oxford. Perhaps it was at Oxford that ho set/the true seal to his popularity. It soon became apparent that while there he was not the reigning iKing of England's son, but a fellowstudent, living in college rooms, playing most sports and serving as a private in the O.T.G. England's new ruler has travelled extensively, and has a thorough and unique knowledge of his Empire beyond the seas. He has visited Canada more than once, and liked the life of the great outdoors sufficiently to induce him to purchase a ranch in that country. In 1919.he travelled through the - United States and has since visited South Africa, India, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. The British Empire the world over rejoices in .the, ascension to the Eng-' lish Throne of one so . popular ;and well-fitted for the arduous task of ruling a nation. May God guard, and bless King Edward Vlll., and give to him long years of wise and happy ruling among his British subjects. LONG LIVE THE KING.
