The ling is a fish of the cod family. It varies in length from four to six feet and it is capable of laying between 20,000,000 and 30,000,000 eggs in a season. Oil from its liver is/ a common adulterant of cod-liver oil. Tho parrot's keen ear and clever brain enable it to imitate sounds, but it cannot understand them. Its " speech" resembles the repetition by a human being of words in a language of which he does not know anything.
