CORNWELL CUP.

| SEVENTH RACE. I WON BY PLIMMERTON. The seventh race of the Cornwell Cup contest was sailed yesterday off Bays water, starting at 4.35 p.m. over a triangular course from the clubhouse, round outer pile . off . Bayswater, tnence round mark off Nortlicote Point and back to clubnouse, twice, round —five miles. The wind was northerly and rather light, but much better than the morning or early afternoon race. At gunfire all got away in very close order, Lyttelton .leading ,by a few feet from Wellington, Manukau, Hamilton, Auckland, Plnnmerton, Tauranga, Christchurch, YVhangarei, Paremata, Kaiapoi and Utago. Un .the run out to pile beacon vVellingcon drew ahead, with Tauranga, Auckland, Kaiapoi, Hamilton and JL'limmerton next. Plimmerton, sailing well, drew ahead just before rounaing, with Wellington and Auckland next. It was a broad lead with spinnakers well for'ard to the mal'k off Northcote and Plimmerton slowly increased her lead, Auckland, Manukau, Tauranga and Hamilton also doing well, but the Hamilton boys went to leeward of a hulk and lost their position. ! The first round was timed: Plimmerton, oh 10m 7s; Manukau, 5h 10m 295; Auckland, 5h 11m; Tauranga, oh llm 20b; Kaiapoi, 5k 12m lo«; Christchurch, 5h 12m aus; Wellington, 5h 13m 4(te; Otago, 5h 13m 50s; Hamilton, oh 14m 21s, and the others further astern. On the second run to the Bayswater beacon, Auckland drew upon Plimmerton, but the Plimmerton boys handled thenboat with great skill and kept Auckland behind them, rounding five lengths ahead of Manukau and Auckland and immediately luffing out t 0 prevent them passing to windward. This helped them to win the race, as neither Manukau, which was second, nor Auckland could catch Plimmerton, whose crew watched every move, and they rounded the Northcote mark with a slightly better lead from Manukau, Auckland and Tauranga, which were all close up.

The Plimmerton crew made no mistakes in the beat .back to the finishing line, standing on one long board on port after a short one to get weajher position at the lee mark, and they laid the finishing line without again breaking tacks. The finish was: Plimmerton (Watson Bros.), 5h 38m 18s; Manukau, 5h 38m 40s; Auckland, 5h 39m 425; Tauranga, 5n 40m 58s; Kaiapoi, 5h 41ni 15s; (Jhristchurch, 5h 41m 20s; Wellington, 5h 44m 365; Paremata, tsh 44m 58s; Otago, oh 4om 10s; Hamilton, 5h 46m 355; Lyttelton, 5h 47m 13s; Whangarei, 5h 47m 355. The position is now that Plimmerton and Auckland have each won two races and Tauranga, Manukau and Kaiapoi one each. The contest will be continued today, when it is expected that it will be finished. The weather is fine, with a light but steady north-easterly bfeeze.
