ROWING.

HAMILTON BEGATTA. ENTRIES AND POSITIONS. Wide interest is being shown in the senior four race which will be the principal event at the Hamilton regatta on Anniversary Day. This event, carrying a cash donation of £30, promises to be the most strongly contested of the day, competing crews being in their top form. /Of the maiden eights no accurate forecast can be made, the form of the Auckland clubs not being known. But with a big field for the open maiden fours, judging by the performances at Tauranga s thc finish of this race will be an interesting one, as the merits of each crew are almost equal, Mercer, however, being the first to pass the post at the opening regatta of the season last Boxing Day. In this event West End boasted a superior crew and were confident of success, but had to be content with only second place. However, they have hopes of greater achievement on Anniversary Day. A local maiden four has also created a good impression, and since a mishap occurred at the recent regatta their racing ability has not been revealed. Draw for Positions. The entries having met with the approval of the Auckland Rowing Association, the draw for the positions in the various races was proceeded with in the boathouse and was conducted by a representative of the police. The result is as follows:—Maiden Double Sculls.—Ngaruawahia 1, Tauranga 2, Hamilton 3, Waitemata 4, St. George's 5, Mercer 6. Light Maidens. —Mercer 1, Tauranga 2, Waitemata 3, Hamilton 4, West End 5, Ngaruawahia 0, St. George's 7, Auckland 8. Junior Fours (B and B). —Tauranga (No. 1) 1, West End 2, Waitemata 3, Hamilton 4, Tauranga (No. 2) 5. Single Sculls (open).—Mercer 1, Wanganni Union 2, Waitemata 3, Hamilton 4. Maiden Eights. —Hamilton 1, Tauranga 2, Waitemata 3, West End 4. Senior Fours.—Hamilton..!, Waitemata 2, Tauranga 3. Maiden Fours (open).—Hamilton (No. 2) 1, West End 2, St. George's 3, Ngaruawahia (No. 1) 4, Mercer (No. 1) 5; Waitemata 6, Auckland 7, Mercer (No. 2) 8, Ngaruawahia (No. 2) 9, Hamilton (No. 1) 10, Whakatane 11. Single Sculls Handicap.—Waitemata (No. 1) 1, West End 2, Waitemata (No. 2) 3, Hamilton (No. 1) 4, Wanganui Union 5, Tauranga 0, St. George's 7, Mercer 8, Waitemata (No. 3) 9, Hamilton (No. 2) 10. Eight-oar Non-class.—Tauranga 1, Hamilton 2, Auckland University 3. Youths' Fours.—Auckland 1, Hamilton 2, Ngaruawahia 3, Waitemata 4, Tauranga 5, Mercer 6.

Some spectacular sculling is anticipated in the open event, in which the New Zealand title holder, Jackson, of "VVanganui Union, and the ex-title holder, R. B. Smith, of Waitemata, both of whom participated at the Melbourne ' Centenary regatta and received good reports, are engaged. Now with the New Zealand championships close at hand the rivalry will be very keen and the race will be hiainly between these • two contestants, with Morey, of Mercer, a probable third.
