STOLEN DRUMS.
TWO MEN GIVEN CHANCE. WENT STRAIGHT FOR YEARS. "You have both managed to go for a long period—ten years, in fact—without any convictions," said Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., to James Baxter Ker, aged 55, labourer, and James Henry Edwards, aged 47, a seaman, who appeared iii the Police Court yesterday for sentence on a charge of stealing two 44-gallon drums on January 12. "That's so," said Ker, "and if you give me a chance I'll make it another ten years, or more. We have both been in custody 14 days on remand." Both men were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months.
