There is to be no extension of the shipping strike as the result of the Australian Council of Trades Unions' conference, wlii<sh ended to-<lay. So much hostility was displayed by the delegates to the seamen's extension proposal that it was withdrawn. The council is endeavouring to arrange for a conference with the shipowners, also to ask the Government to alter the Transport Workers' Act to enable members of the Seamen's Union to accept employment.
