THE TEACHING PROFESSION. EIGHT HUNDRED NEW ENTRANTS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. The Otago Education Board has been advised bv the Education Department that 800 new entrants will be admitted to the four training colleges next year. It i santicipated that the Otago quota will be increased from 51 to 74. In addition to graduates and those with a qualifying pass in the Training College entrance examination, applications Will be received . from holders of higher leaving certificates or of a credit pass in the University entrance scholarship examination. It is anticipated that there will be 110 dearth of applicants now that the doolie open to .holders of higher lea ving certificates. The increasing of tlie bursary to £70 per annum and the restoration of tlie lodging allowance of £30 par annum will also be additional attractions.
