ROYAL DANCE'S MISSION

TO CONTEST RAILWAY.

Although he has been scratched for the Railway Handicap Prince Ven is to be taken to Ellerslie by R. J. Mateer. This horse has engagements on each day of the meeting, and will contest the Robinson Handicap, seven furlongs. He has been working well, but will probably be more suited by' a shorter distance event. Gay .and Gold lightened up; aftqr-her race at Avondale, but is again working satisfactorily. Mateer will probably wait until February before racing any of his team except Prince Ven. The other inmates of the stable are Thrust, Seaman and a sister to Poi Dance. Scotland took no harm from his race in the Waipa Cup. He is not engaged on the first day at Ellerslie, but intentions are that he will be on hand for the second day. Royal Dance is to be accepted for m the Railway Handicap, and present intentions are that he will go to the post. This horse is going well in his woi% and will be taken to Ellerslie on Tuesday.

The outing Last Lap had at Te Awamutu on Saturday seems to have sharpened him up, although-his performance in the race was disappointing. He did not Tun up to his track Work, so that he may make amends on the country circuit. Last Lap will race at Pirongia on Boxing Day.. Nothing looks better among the Matamata horses than' Pound Sterling. Although he was not prominent at Waipa he needed a race, and will do better later on.- .**'• _

Swift Spear had ttyoi races on the one clay at Waipa, but shows no ill effects. He has- only had ; three., races since midway through; last season, .so may be expected to improve from ■ now on.
