" SAFETY-FIRST " WEEK.

DISTRIBUTION" OF POSTERS,

The "safety-first" week campaign which is now in progress is proceeding satisfactorily, and this morning further posters were distributed to motor drivers with the object of bringing home to the public the need for exercising care on the roads.

The latest posters are very arresting] and liave been supplied by the Auckland Transport Board. One has large red lettering and reads: "Be alert. Don't hurt others; and don't get hurt.". Another which attracts more notice depicts a big black cat, and the text reads as follows: —"I have nine lives; you have only one. Be careful!" Other means of educating the public as to the traffic dangers are also being employed, including the screening of appropriate slides at picture theatres. The Transport Board's posters were distributed among [ commercial vehicle drivers this morning, and it is estimated that 200 vehicles ■wall display them for the remainder of this week and succeeding weeks during the holiday period.
