LAUNCH ASHORE.
KATHRYM R. DAMAGED.
HEAVY SEAS AT DEVONPORT.
The 35-foot cruising launch Kathryn R., owned by Mr. Goddard, of Clarence Street, Devonport, came ashore this morning shortly - after ten o'clock and was damaged by grounding on the rocks near the Devonport Yacht Clubhouse.
The launch, which was purchased onlylast week by Mr. Goddard from Mr. W. J. Reid, of Ponsonby, was on Mr. P. Virtue's moorings just inside North Head. There was a big sea driven by the hard easterly gale and the launch parted the mooring chain, drifting ashore shortly after.
A large number of helpers met the launch as she drifted in and beached her where she will be hauled up at low water.
An examination proved that the Kathryn R. had been holed badly and will need extensive repairs.
