SANDERS CUP.

RACES IN AUCKLAND.

FIRST TEST JANUARY 28. AILEEN LOCAL COMPETITOR. Tlie next contest for tlie Sanders Cup is to be held in Auckland, commencing on Tuesday, January 28. The contestants will he boats of the 14ft Jellicoe class representing Wellington, Canterbury, Otago, Southland and Auckland provincial districts. Canterbury is the present holder of the cup.

At a meeting of the Sanders Cup committee of the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association held last evening it was decided that Mr. Kay Clare's Aileen, built three years ago by Mr. P. Vos, will represent Auckland in the contest. She will be sailed by Mr. A. Willetts, who has handled her in all local races, and he will have the option of naming his crew.

It is three years since Auckland took part in this contest owing to a disagreement with the Southern centres over its control by the New Zealand Yachting Council. About nine months ago negotiations were made with the Southern centres by the Tamaki Yacht Club to try and overcome the difficulty.

In July a meeting was held at the Tamaki clubhouse between representatives from Otago, Canterbury and Wellington, at which all matters in dispute were settled and an agreement signed. This was forwarded to the Auckland Association by the Tamaki Club, and after due consideration was adopted and a challenge sent 011 behalf of Auckland" on November 30.

I here are several matters connected with the running of the contest and its future control which will be decided at a meeting of delegates representing the five provinces taking part in the contest. The delegates will meet here 011 Monday, January 27, and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Club has kindly placed its rooms at the disposal of the conference.
