The total strength of the voting in the election is:— Government 11,616,237 Opposition 10,037,559 Seventy-nine candidates forfeited their deposits, including 39 Liberals and 18 Labourites. The total accruing in this manner is £11,850, which will go to the Crown. BALLOT MYSTERIES. FAULTY BOX ARRANGEMENTS. (Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 15. The recount of Kelvingrove, Glasgow, produced odd discoveries. First, a box of 200 ballot papers was voided because it was not stamped. Then an unopened box was found among the empty containers. The Marquess of Clydesdale, "the boxing Marquess," adds another sporting celebrity to the House. TWO DAYS' CAMPAIGN. CAPTAIN BRISCOE'S WIN. According to private cable advice received in Auckland this morning, Captain Briscoe, English businessman who left Auckland on a dash to England during a tour of the Dominion, arriving there only two days before the election, has been returned as Conservative member for Cambridgeshire r>y a majority of 7700. His brother, Mr. Basil Briscoe, trainer of Commander 111., winner of the Cambridgeshire Stakes, conducted a campaign by proxy for Captain Briscoe, giving his listeners the amusing dual "tip": "Put your money on Commander 111. and vote for Captain Briscoe!" Captain Briscoe is head of the firm of Briscoe and Company, Limited.
