SHUTTLE SERVICE.
VICTORIA AVENUE TRAMS. PARTIAL FEEDER SYSTEM. Details- of the proposed alterations to the Victoria Avenue tram service were outlined by the manager, Mr. A. E. Ford, in a report presented to a committee meeting of the Auckland Transport Board this morning. It was proposed to run five trams during the rush periods, and then for the remainder of the day to operate a feeder service between Victoria Avenue terminus and the Remuera Post Office. The shuttle service would run at intervals of about 24 minutes.
In connection with the transfer of passengers from the shuttle service to cars running through to the city, conductors would be instructed to allow holders of tickets from outward bound trams to travel to the foot of Victoria Avenue for Id provided they produced the ticket purchased on the main line train, and when making the purchase notify the conductor that they desired to proceed to Victoria Avenue or vice versa. In that case the ticket would be punched in a special way. Mr. Ford added: "This cannot be regarded as a perfect system giving adequate facilities for checking, bat bearing in mind that the Victoria Avenue service is a sparse one both in the number of trips and passengers carried, and that one tram only will operate the shuttle service during the normal loading period, I recommend this system, as $ny alternative would be too cumbersome and costly to operate."
