TRANSPORT BOARD.
WAGES OF WORKERS. RESTORATION QUESTION. ASSESSORS TO CONFER. Complications in connection with the Auckland Transport Board's recent decision to restore wages on the first £300 up to the 1931 level were mentioned at a meeting of the board this morning when the minutes of the previous meeting, at which the decision was made, arose for confirmation. The chairman, Mr. H. G. K. Mason, presided. Mr. J. Sayegh asked for an explanation of the effect of the decision, as it was apparent that there was some misunderstanding. Mr. Mason said that as the total pay depended on the amount of overtime worked it was impossible to make a precise comparison. There was nothing to prevent representatives of the Auckland Transport Board Employees' Union meeting the assessors of the board. In fact, there was a motion on the book permitting such negotiations. Mr. W. T. Anderton said that it wo aid not be good business to go back to the system of double pay on Sundays. It was decided to review the question further with representatives of the union. A letter was received from the Mayor stating that a conference of all interests likely to be concerned in the commemoration of Auckland's centenary in 1040 would be held on November 11 and requested the board to send two delegates. It was decided to appoint Mr. Mason and Mr. J. A. C. Allum. A request that a report be prepared on the practicability of reducing the price of workers' weekly tickets was made by Mr. W. J. Jordan. The matter was referred to a eub-committee of the board, who will report to a future meeting. Accounts for the month totalling £30,629 19/5 were passed for payment.
