N.S.W. WINS EVERY RUBBER. VISITORS TAKE ONLY ONE SET. SYDNEY, November 3. The women's tennis contest New South Wales versus New Zealand was continued yesterday in very hot and sultry weather. Results:— Singles. Miss Menzies' boat" Miss E. Rudkin (Canterbury)', 6—2, 6—2. Miss Selwin beat Miss T. Poole (Canterbury), 6—2, 6—o. Miss Coyne beat Miss D. Nicholls (Wellington), 6—o, 6^-1. Miss Hattersley beat Miss W. Miller (Otago), 6—5, 6—2. Miss Menzies was too sure for Miss Rudkin. The former's only failures were at the net. Miss Thelma Poofe played versatile tennis and took all risks but made far too many mistakes against her consistent opponent Miss Selwin. Miss Coyne, too, played with the utmost confidence against lier New Zealand opponent Miss Nicholls, who failed to do herself justice and apparently was distressed by the heat. Miss Miller began well against Miss Hattersley. In fact, she offered stronger opposition than her team mates. Miss Hattersley drove very hard and played brilliantly at the net ajid never let up. , „ Double?. Misses Coyne and Vickery beat Misses Nicholls and .Rudkin, 6—3, 6—l. . Misses Hattersley and Selwin beat tse Misses Poole, 6 —3, 6—l. New South Wales thus won by 12 rubbers, 26 sets,' 123 games to one set, 63 games. Miss T. Poole displayed ability and skill in the doubles, scoring several times with well-judged interceptions. In the other match Miss Coyne was overpowering with her services, drives and smashes. The visitors showed they were inexperienced on grass. Frequently they miss-hit the ball. Nevertheless the local players were never fully extended.
