BOOM ON THE CLYDE
40 NEW SHIPS ORDERED. British Official Wireless. (Received 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, November 1. During the last three mouths orders for more than 40 new ships have been booked by the Clyde shipbuilding industry, and tenders are out for other contracts worth more than £1,000,000. Orders secured in October alone are estimated at £4,000,000. It is calculated that by 4he spring of next year the Clyde shipyards will have more than 400,000 tons gross of new vessels on hand. The improvement is most welcome in the locality which suffered severely in the earlier part of the depression.
