shut tight. I sorted out my books ami prepared to work, but —alas! I had left inv geometry book downstairs. Marching over"to the'door, I seized the rickety handle and pulled. Next thing I was seated on the floor, rubbing my head ruefully, with the brass doorhandle in my hand. In desperation I pulled at the wedge of wood but the only part 1 succeeded in removing from under the door was a splinter, which lodged in my
linger. Realising that the door would afford no means °of exit I surveyed the jump from the window doubtfully. However, that preparation had to be done, so 1 climbed on to the sill. Just as I was about to jump, Jim's voice hailed me. "Hey, sis. vou can't jump from there! As I jerked my head to glance at him I somehow lost my balance ... I had a sensation of falling, clutched at thin nir and finally landed upon dad's prize wise bush. Jim merely sat down—very gallant 01 him I must say—and laughed till the tears came, while I, considerably torn and dishevelled, extracted myself from the clinging embrace of the rose bush and fled inside. Somehow that preparation was done that night, and next morning when l arrived at school I told a circle of friend* about my adventures of the night bcfoicWhen I had finished they all exploded with laughter and at my expense. l, had to wait until they had calmed somewhat before T was enlightened as to the meaning of their mirth. At last one n-nsped, "We had to prepare for a test fn geography to-day, not geometry. I looked blankly at them and even Hetty smiled and said, "Quite an amusing incident." But When the geography teacher Imy marks she didn't think so!
