There is no reason, says Robert Lynd, for believing that, because a continuous succession of 'novelties is necessary to the perfection of a motor car, poetry can be improved at the same rate by the same process.
One of the most curious of anthologies will be "For and Against Doctors," in which Robert Hutchinson.and G. M. Wmieliope have collected samples of the praise and abuse received by their own profession from the time of the ancient Greeks to that of Bernard Shaw.
St. John Ervine recently complained that he was pestered by demands made upon him by strangers. He is evidently not the only one. The following advertisement has appeared in an English newspaper: "Mr. Osbert Sitwell must regretfully refuse to read any more MSS. gratis. His charge is now £1 per page. MSS. should only be sent to him on this understanding, and, if sent otherwise, will not be returned."
A book of great interest 'on the exKaiser has been published by John Murray. It is called "Potsdam and Doom," and the author, BrigadierGeneral W: H.-H. Waters, who recently returned from a brief visit to the Kaiser at /Doom, is able to write his book from an acquaintance with his subject extending over 30 years.
The latest volum" by Dorothy Whipple, author of "Greenbanks," "They Knew Mr. Knight," etc., was published by John Murray' in October. It is called "On Approval and Other Stories," and consists of 1-1 short stories. Mrs. Kathleen Noiris' new novel, "Shining Windows," has also been published.
