Auckland Club Events—End Of Road Season. The 1035 road season of tlie Auckland Cycle Club was brought to a successful conclusion last week-end at Pannnuv. in fairly good weather conditions. To wind up the season, a combined junior and senior race was held over a distance of 25 miles of the Howiek course. - A good field of 27 competed, there being 10 juniors and 17 seniors. 'The finish was a good one, a trio of riders namely Ron Absoluui (7.15), F. Allen (8.0) and Jack Stewart (7.15) having a wheel to wheel encounter all the way up the straight to the finishing line. Absolum did best in the end, to notch his first success of the season, behalf a length. This rider's success was well-earned for it was not until the tail-end of the season that he struck his best form. He finished sixth in the previous week's big race, which was quite a good performance for his first attempt. Allen, who gained second place, is a now member, hailing from Tc Aroha. Most of his previous racing has been done on the track, so his ride was quite a good one in consequence. The coming track season may see him doing well. .Stewart, third, again showed that he is in good form, and without doubt this rider has improved wonderfully this season. His best rides though have all been over a distance. Jim Sampson (3.0) rode splendidly to gain fourth place and fastest time in 70.55. The popular club captain made a great effort ever the final stages to get the leaders, ljut-was still 23s to the bad at the finish. The first junior to finish was Des Banks, off 0.0, finishing 1.9 after the winner, also to clock the fastest junior time in 74.41. His time w r as 6s faster than the winner's—a good performance. The next junior was B. Collier (18.0). He and J. Needham (10.15) both rode nice races and were only overhauled by the placegetters two miles from home. Frank Pearce (0.45) was the third junior in and this trio collected points for the aggregate. Appended is the final position for the aggregate points cUps: — Senior winner, K. Coates, SJ, and others following. Fastest time winner, W. Pratney, 0; runner-up, S. Ward, SJ; S. Hayes and F. Prior 3. Junior aggregate winner, P. Collier, 12 points; runners-up, G. Ralph and B*. Banks, 11; then followed F. Pearce, 10; M. Cardwell, J. Stuart, 9; T. Hcdlund, E. Redfern, 8; B. Harvey, C. Stanaway, D. Moxon, 7. Fastest time winner, B. Harvey, 121. Club members Wally Chisholm, Bill Pratney and Slater Hayes journeyed to New Plymouth for the Mountain Race last week-end, the former riding well to gain third place. With a good mark of 35.0, many expected him to go well and he did not disappoint. It is reported he was one of the hardest workers throughout. He entered the finishing ground with first and second man, but once on the grass, made heavy by the rain, tired perceptibly and finished 200 yards behind the winner. His placing was worth £10 and also a gold medal for first Auckland provincial rider to finish. Hayes notched two guineas for oldest rider outside a place. Members are advised to wateh the "Star" for opening track events.
