HIDE MARKET.
RISING TENDENCY IN LONDON. Msssrs. Weddel and Co., London, have reported under date September 19 thai colonial and miscellaneous hides were continuing to find a much better market and prices had a rising tendency. "The prices given in our last report for New Zealand descriptions can be _ repeated. New Zealand freezer cow hides are held for sd, but named freezers, 401b to 501b, have registered 5%d. Abattoir cow hides are held for 4%d to 4%d and countries 4V!B r ! to iMd. Non-ticky Australian hides arcfirm and Victorian meat works, 201b XC 301b, have been sold at 6d; firsts at sml. New South Wales are quoted at aboir. the same prices. The leather market is beginning to be more active. Numerous small sales are reported, but there is as yet an absence of bulk demand. Prices are firm and those descriptions which are selling freely have gone up in price. The 6hoe and leather fair is expected to give a very favourable result to tanners this year.
