A New Wrestler.

Johnny Woods Featured — Wrestles Andresen. Few contests in Auckland excited more enthusiasm than the last bout seen here between Cestoldi and Blomfield, and it was unfortunate that the Auckland Wrestling Association was unable to secure a return between those two, owing to the fact that both men were already booked to appear in other centres. However, wrestling enthusiasts will not be disappointed, for next Monday a bout that should prove equally as good and thrilling will be featured. By a fortunate chance the Dominion of New Zealand Wrestling Union has been able to add to its forces a wrestler who will definitely prove a big draw. He is Johnny Woods, a husky young Californian, weighing in the vicinity of 16st. Woods received his early wrestling tution .while at the University of California, and he proved such an apt pupil that in 1931 and 1932 he was the intercollegiate heavy-weight champion of the West Coast of the United.States. Like others who have visited New Zealand, Woods was an outstanding footballer and at one time was an ail-American star. His development as a wrestler was so rapid that in 1933 he turned pro. fessional and from that time he has been remarkably successful. The American's performance against MeCready in Wellington was outstanding and he was unlucky that in endeavouring to last out against the octopus hold he suffered injury. On Monday night Woods will have as hi* opponent Ole Andresen, a clever wrestler who has been responsible for many excellent showings in New Zealand. Andresen is very popular in Auckland and should be seen to even better advantage against Woods. However, ho will need to be at his best to weather the vicious tactics of the newcomer, who will go all out to score a convincing victory. The forthcoming bout should draw a capacity audience, and wrestling enthusiasts arc assured of witnessing a stirring encounter. A special challenge bout between W. Williamson (Auckland) and T. Flavill (Gisborne) will be one of the preliminaries preceding the professional contest.
