TE AROHA HORSES.

KING • BRIERLY IMPROVES. CANDIDATES TOR WAIKATO. The win of Bonnie Song in the Bardowie Handicap at Cambridge on Monday came somewhat as a surprise to A. £. Cox's stable, as the Hunting Song filly is yet subject to a little improvement in racing condition. However, she is such a genuine galloper that she can always be depended upon to do her best. She appears to be ail the better for the outing and should £e quite a payable proposition during the season.

Mungacre did not run up to track form at_the Waikato Hunt meeting, but the Acre gelding will see a better day. His track gallop with Royal Secret over six furlongs prior to the meeting was full of merit and seemed to show that he had benefited by his Ellerslie effort this month.

King Brierly, who had been somewhat off-colour last week, was treated medically, with the result that he has come back to the training ground in much improved trim. ; He i 3 now putting vim into his galloping, and under ordinary, circumstances may soon strike form. When he does the opposition will be kept busy up to a mile.

Mr. R. Hines' Fei-Mah is now getting into racing shape and is showing plenty of ability. Judging by his* track work, in which he comes strongly in the finishing stages, the Paladin gelding may develop into a stayer, and thus prove a worthy addition to a stable that for years past has sent out its share of winners.

Mr. McShaffrey, of Waitoa, ha 3 put into work, in charge of M. L. Lipsey, a bay mare by King Lu—St. Amans mare that, in point of style and conformation, leaves little to be desired. A game head, lengthy rein, well-sprung ribs and neatly-turned quarters gives an idea that this mare should be a good performer. She is a half-sister to the defunct Grand Arch. J. H. Wallace has Pirate King working very satisfactorily. He has been sprinted a couple of furlongs in company with Miss Mestor and has acquitted himself very creditably. Mazir, in the same stable, is working well, although he has not been required to execute fast work since returning from Ellerslie. All going well in tbe meantime he will contest the Hack Cup at Te Rapa.

The Te Aroha horses nominated for the Waikato spring meeting- next month are: Mungatoon, Gay Rose, Gay Egypt, King Brierly, Fei-Mah,. Keith Lu, Madelon, Libra, Ellanui, Mazir, Royal Secret, Desert Star, Lagoon, Bonnie Song and Mungacre. It is not likely that this list will be much reduced on the race days.

Silver Shield is progressing very satisfactorily in her work. She is developing into a very shapely filly and is now a decidedly well-grown two-year-old. The other morning she was sprinted a couple of furlongs wrth Te Maranui and galloped very smoothly and capably. In a few weeks this Gay Shield—Madara Ruth filly will make her debut in public. Of N. J. Prenter's team, Madelon is one that is showing definite improvement. The full-sister to Gay Egypt has developed into racing shape very materially during the past few weeks and in her next engagement should be capable of running prominently. The Lucullus—Minsk mare Caviare, dam of Rona Bay, has a colt foal this season by King Lu. Some interest will be taken in this juvenile, as he i 3 inbred in the leading strain to the Ard Patrick line through Lucullus.
